Can You Get a Copy of a Will Online?

In an age when almost everything is online, it is natural to ask whether you can pull up someone’s will from your couch. The honest answer: sometimes—but only under the right conditions.

Only after it is filed with the court

A will is not available online while the person is alive—it is private. It can become accessible only after death, once it has been deposited with the clerk of court and (usually) entered into a probate case.

Where to look

Many Florida county clerks offer online access to court and probate records, so a filed will may be viewable through the clerk’s portal for the county where the person lived. Coverage and how far back records go vary by county, and some documents still require an in-person or mailed request.

If it is not online

If you can’t find it online, the clerk’s office can tell you whether a will has been filed. See our guide on how to get a copy of a will in Florida for the full process, or contact Hochberger Law for help.
